A picture of an Iraqi kid making the V-sign, was worldwide shown as support for the US-troops. In fact he meant: you are a donkey, a fool.

When in our Western society a policeman or some other authority figure stretches his arm towards you and shows you the palm of his hand, you know, that you have to stop and stand still.

This handsign was used by Allied forces during the Gulf Wars at check-points in Iraq, not knowing that for the Iraqi this handsign meant “come closer”.

This cultural gap and misunderstanding led to several shooting-incidents and the dead of innocent Iraqi.
